Music Publisher's Association of the United States - oldest music trade organization in the United States. Covers "every area of music publishing with an emphasis on the issues relevant to the publishers of print music for concert and educational purposes" (About).

Aria Database - details on over 1000 operatic arias.

Internal Index to Music Periodicals (IIMP) Full Text - access to content in popular music journals.

Concise Oxford Dictionary of Music - covers all music periods and styles.

Dictionary of Opera Characters - the who's who in opera.

Dolmetsch Music Dictionary - this online dictionary "offer[s] explanations and comments about general (non-musical) words as well as specialist (i.e. musical, etc.) terms that might be found in musical scores, libretti, books on music, web sites, CD notes, concert programmes, etc." (home page).

Oxford Companion to the American Musical - over 2000 entries on musicals, composers, performers, etc.

Virginia Tech Multimedia Music Dictionary - musical terms have an aural accompaniment of pronunciations and listening examples.

Government Information

Canadian Music Periodical Index - Library and Archives Canada. The CMPI "includes over 37 000 entries on articles dating from the late 19thC to the present day" (Introduction, CMPI). The site does not provide texts but articles can be obtained through our databases or through interlibrary loan.
